I sat down with Sly Augustin, owner of Trailer Happiness, and talked about what it’s like to have one of the hottest cocktails bars in the world. A true intercontinentalist, Sly and I first crossed paths about 7 years ago in Brooklyn on one of his Stateside stints and we became fast friends. He’s a guy after my own heart- a globetrotter who loves to have and show people a good time. It’s only right that Sly now runs a bar that has become a staple on West London’s Portobello Road.
The world famous Trailer Happiness, the London home of Rum and Tiki, is “an intimate lounge bar, den and kitchen with the e-z-boy feel of a low rent, mid-60s California valley bachelor pad”. A low-lit, low-key lounge, you can count on Trailer Happiness for a guilt-free good time with good people. The bar staff is friendly and chill and the DJs play everything considered good music with an emphasis on soul, R&B, hip-hop, and reggae.
From their Asiatic and exotic interpretations of popular classics (The Banzai ’45 or Mr Yellow Belly) to their recipes of fully fledged Tiki favorites (Missionary’s Downfall, Rum Runners or Hell in the Pacific) and a host of originals, Trailer Happiness features some of the greatest interpretations of the Tiki and Exotic movement’s drink style anywhere in the world.
